Cal

It is with much sadness and a very heavy heart that I said goodbye to Cal on Wednesday, Dec. 4 th , 2013.  Cal was almost 14 and had very bad arthritis and nerve degeneration.  He had been having an increasingly difficult time and could hardly walk any longer.   It was a most difficult decision (as most of you know).  His quality of life was very poor.  He went to his eternal rest peacefully in my arms.  Now he is my angel in Heaven, at peace and free from pain.

Cal had been found running loose in Calvert County, MD.  He adopted me over 9 years ago.  He was my second failed foster.  After many months of battling heartworm disease and numerous other health issues, he morphed from a scared 45 lb. skeleton into a happy, healthy 90 lb. White German Shepherd.

Even after I found a wonderful forever home for him in Jamestown, VA., he wasn’t having any of it.  After 3 weeks of eating door and window frames and leaving blood on them from chewing and other acts of protestation in his new home, he came back to me with a sheepish grin on his beautiful face.  I knew that he had chosen me and he was not to be dissuaded. He became my Velcro dog.  We had over 9 wonderful, joyful years together.   I miss him more than words could ever express.

Callie 3665

It is with broken heart that we have to report that Callie 3665 crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 12/5/21.  She first came into our lives in August of 2013 and was classified as “special needs” due to neurological issues which mad her a tad clumsy in her gait.  Over the last eight years she has been with us through family moves, kids growing up and moving out, and she has ruled over all of it.  There may be others in our future, but there will never be another Callie.  She may have been “special needs” but all we saw was “special”.  We loved every minute of our time with Callie and will miss her every day.  - The Powell Family.

Cam 3432

RIP 3/9/01 - 3/31/13
Cam was an owner surrender 1/31/13. He was a 12 year old junkyard dog that spent his life outdoors with his dog friend Shaggy 3417. Cam came into rescue with heartworms, vision problems and arthritis. He was the sweetest dog who was able to spend his last days with his doggie friend and his new human foster friends loving to snuggle in warm blankets and be petted and cuddled.

Casey 949

It is with much sadness and a very heavy heart that I report that our beloved Casey passed away this morning, February 11, 2016, in our home.   Casey was approximately 13 and had been diagnosed with Canine Degenerative Myelopathy about a year ago.  He had been having an increasingly difficult time and could hardly walk any longer.  His quality of life was very poor.

He loved everyone, enjoyed camping at the lake, traveling across the country in our Motorhome, chasing squirrels and deer, and just being by my side.  It was a very difficult decision to make. Casey went to his eternal rest peacefully with us by his side.  He is now in heaven running and playing with our loved ones.

We adopted Casey from VGSR on September 15, 2004.  Casey was picked up as a stray and taken in by the VGSR to be put up for adoption.  Casey was approximately 1-1/2 years of age and weighed 55 lbs when he joined our family.  He was a kind, loving, and devoted companion to my husband and I.  He bonded with me very quickly; he was my shadow and wanted to be by my side all of the time.  We are so blessed that Casey came in to our lives and that we could provide him with a forever home.

Ceaser

My devoted Ceaser, who I adopted from you back in 2010, went to the Rainbow Bridge this evening. He was the best friend any man could have ever had.

This boy was my loyal and true friend. I am sad to say after 9 years with him he had to travel over the Rainbow Bridge today. I am devastated and will  always have him with me. He was the happiest and most loyal soul I have known and I will miss him horribly.    January 2018
