1/7/17   Champ (4386) is loving and will be a loyal family companion. He has a wonderful temperament and is friendly and non-aggressive with people and other animals. He currently lives with another dog, cats, horses, and chickens. He has been socialized with other dogs and is friendly toward strangers (people and dogs). He is housebroken and doesn’t bark very often. He is easy to groom and sheds little. Champ will be a year old in February and still loves to chew (toys/bones) and is playful. He makes a good jogging or running partner

Champ currently weighs 50 lbs. He has been neutered and has had his rear dew claws removed. Champs is extremely athletic and shows no signs of the rear leg difficulties he had when a young puppy.

This is the fourth born of Zara 4356's twelve puppies.

5/4/19  Hi there! This is Champ! I just want to let everyone know that I am a happy and healthy boy! A very nice and caring lady took me home with her and rubbed me and stretched me and loved me a lot. She helped my legs work right again. It was scary when I couldn't make them work right, but I was a brave boy and now I run and play and fight like the Champ I know I am!!!  I love other dogs and people of all types. I especially love my rehab friend named Kim. I will be a special friend to anyone who gives me a chance!!

4/30/16  GOOD NEWS!! Champ does not have any illness that caused his loss of use of his rear legs. We hoped this would be the news after he showed so much progress with his Physical Therapy! We are thinking he was injured somehow and needed the special care and work to resolve whatever the problem was.

4/25/16  Champ spent the weekend with a Rehab specialist and with the guidance of our VGSR vet, she was able to work some miracles. Champ came back walking again! We are truly amazed and blessed that the extra care has done so much good.

4/17/16 Little Champ has some sort of neurological problem. Last Sunday his rear legs quit working quite right. We are doing physical therapy and he has blood work pending at Virginia Tech, so we should have a diagnosis and prognosis soon. He is full of life and tries not to let his disability affect his puppy life.

NOTE TO THOSE INTERESTED IN ZARA'S PUPPIES from the foster mom:
These puppies will be available the first part of May. Have you applied to adopt? If not, this is the link with the adoption information and application: http://www.vgsr.org/info/adoption
Please make sure you live in our service area.

Some of my personal requirements for my foster dogs/puppies are: a fenced area attached to your home’s back or side door. The fenced area is for the dog’s safety and your convenience. The fence needs to be a minimum of 4′ high, but doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive, nor does it have to encompass your entire yard. The Invisible Fence cannot be used, as most German Shepherd dogs will run through the boundary at will. It does not keep out other dogs, wild animals or bad people nor will it allow your dog to come back in without a “punishment". With a puppy regarding potty time: All puppies are different, but a puppy can usually only hold his waste for the same number of hours as his age in months. (In other words, a four-month-old pup should not be left alone for more than four consecutive hours without an opportunity to go outside.) He can last longer at night, however, since he’s inactive (just like we can). By the time your pup is about four months old, he should be able to make it through the night without going outside. If you do not have the time required for a baby puppy, you may want to consider a pup over six months old or a mature dog over two years old.  Primary caregivers of puppies are to be adults only.
I have no information about the father of the pups.
If you think a very young pup would be a good fit in your family situation, please go ahead and get approved now so you can be ready when they are ready. If for some reason you miss this litter of puppies, there will be more and your approval is good for two years.
Please remember your application fee is not refundable but considered a donation and adoption is not guaranteed to applicants.
