German Shepherd Dog (medium coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Adult
4/30/2015 Handsome Joe is a sweet, smart, affectionate dog. He knows how to sit, stay, heel, and lie down. He is a wonderful companion, shadowing us constantly, and yet not clingy. He seems to still have some separation anxiety, which he shows by jumping and vocalization when we return from leaving him, even for a short time. We have been training him not to jump up and he is doing much better. He will chase tennis balls until he has to lie down and rest for a couple of minutes, and then he’s ready to go again. He will do best in a large fenced yard with lots of play time and other opportunities for exercise. He might make a good scent dog since he is by far the most dedicated “sniffer” we’ve had. He does counter surf and gets bored rather easily, but has only destroyed a stuffed animal. He needs closed garbage and trash cans. He definitely needs someone very strong to walk him on a leash, as he has pulled us over multiple times. He walks at an excellent heel position until he sees a squirrel and then he wants to give chase! He is an outstanding dog and needs someone who will continue training him and who is a strong disciplinarian, yet able to give him lots of love and positive feedback.
