4/05/14  Sabbath is a large 80 lb. 2.5 year old black and silver male GSD. He doesn't know his name and we call him Snowshoe because of his giant flat feet. He has some issues with his front feet. His has splayed toes, flat feet and he is down in the pasterns. These big flat feet don't slow him down at all and he can run like the wind. Sabbath was an owner surrender to a shelter and had to go to temporary foster care to save his life. He is such a good dog that while he is waiting for a foster home, he is also available for adoption. When he was surrendered, he was an outdoor dog that had never been vetted and was the product of a backyard breeder. Although not perfect, he certainly did not deserve to die. He was fortunate to be free from diseases and parasites. He had no problem transitioning to an indoor dog. This big lug is so happy to have attention; too happy sometimes because he will try to crawl in your lap to have his head scratched. He is a giant clumsy boy who trips over things often and can run into a wall without a blink, but can be so gentle when you are on the floor to pet him. He is said to be good with children, but he may need bigger kids since he could accidently knock a child down in his rush to be loved. He may have a slight tendency to herd, as well. Sabbath did well when brought into a home with five other GSDs. He was a bit overwhelmed at first, but quickly relaxed. Three of the dogs he is currently staying with do not care for his exuberance, need for attention or the fact that he is intact. They have growled, blocked his passage and snapped a few times with little or no reaction from him. He is very easily corrected and really wants to please. He knows how to sit and down and will try both to get a treat. This is a really nice big dog. He is quickly learning how to be polite and was housebroken in a day. This is a very smart boy who craves love, attention and direction. He is extremely loving and attentive and will be a great companion.
