German Shepherd Dog : : Male (neutered)
UPDATE 6/11/14: Now that Argo has been with his foster family for awhile, it's past time for an update! The main thing that we are pleased to report on is that what we had originally thought was quite an issue for him (rear legs that seem to be a bit disorganized) is not really an issue at all. Argo can run, climb stairs and play with the best of them. He loves playing with his canine foster sister and of course, his humans. His rear legs may look a bit different when he walks, but we are thrilled to report that it doesn't seem to hold him back at all. He does tire out sooner than most pups his age (even though he's HUGE, he's only a one year old) but that's really the only difference. Argo LOVES to play, be it with another dog or person. As mentioned, he currently resides with 2 children - a 2 1/2 year old and 15 year old, 2 cats, 1 dog, a miniature horse and a few chickens. Argo would be a great addition to many types of families: someone who is on the more "laid back" side when it comes to exercise or a moderately active family. Someone with another dog or as an only dog. One of the best things about Argo is how willing to please he is and at his young age, he's ready to be molded into whatever you want him to be. If you take the time to meet him, we're sure you won't be disappointed!
Looking for Mr. Tall, Dark and Handsome? Argo is an owner surrender who arrived at VGSR through no fault of his own. He previously lived in a family with three children ages 3 to 9 and is now residing with a 2 year old and a 15 year old. He was previously an only dog, but is getting along with his furry older sister just fine, even though she is a bit of a grumpy diva. He has seen the 2 resident cats but is content to just look at them. Argo is a nice boy who enjoys playing with his toys and getting his belly rubbed. He is VERY tall, sweet and handsome. He is also what I would call a handi-capable dog. What does that mean? For starters, if you're looking for a jogging buddy or agility partner, Argo is not your guy. He can't run, jump or do more than 3 or 4 stair steps. He has what the vets believe is a neurologic condition that makes his back legs appear to be a bit wobbly, floppy or disorganized when he walks or sometimes when he sits. This condition does not seem to cause him any pain and has not gotten any better or worse in the past 7 months since he began to show these symptoms. Will he get better, worse or stay the same? Your guess is as good as mine. Will he make someone a devoted, loving family member? Absolutely! Argo is being fostered near Charlottesville, VA.
