Hi, my name is Moon. I was rescued from a shelter. When I was rescued, I had a slight cough. My foster thought maybe because I was an outside dog, I was at risk for having heart worms, but what followed was worse. My original family dropped me off at the shelter because the county were I lived changed the laws that I could not be kept chained outside 24/7, and that is where I lived for the first two years of my life. Chained outside. So they dropped me off at the shelter instead of bringing me inside. At the vets office they did the usual blood work and shots that are required by VGSR. My foster mom noticed blood on the floor. She and the Vet checked me all over and then realized it was coming from my nose. My blood pressure was then checked, blood and urine taken. It was then that they discovered I had Erlichea, Lyme and Heart worms. Erlichea is worse than Lyme, as it effects my blood palettes and that is why I was bleeding from my nose.
I am now on 28 day of heavy Doxycycline to help the Erlichea. I then need to have my the blood tested before I can get neutered. Also I am taking Heartguard for the next three months before I can start the injections to kill the rest of the heart worms. I am a very sick boy but with VGSR and my foster mom, I am on the road to recovery. I will not be available for adoption until late December/Early Jan. And since I am a white GSD I would make a great Christmas present :)
Now that I have explained my medical issues, let me tell you a little about me. I am a very handsome young man as you can see from my pics. Even though I have been an outside dog, I have been really good with my potty. I go outside all the time. . I love all the attention I am getting here. I can see my foster brother and sister through the fence. I want to play with them but my Mom states no. One, I am not neutered and she does want to risk me and my brother getting into a fight. Second I have heart worms and she does not want my heart to beat fast with excitement. She is keeping me calm and quiet.
I have learned how to sit and down on voice commands. I am not sure about that "stay" thing she is trying on me. I want to be beside her all the time. I am learning how to walk beside her. Which is really hard to do as I have never experienced all this new stuff from a chain. I am in awe, like you mean I can sniff and see all of this life around me. I also love to taste every thing. Which of course has my Mom shaking her head. I have chewed on her bench and tore up blankets, shoes. She bought this stuff called bitter apple, and boy is it bitter but is helping me to learn that smell is something I do not like. I have plenty of toys but I love tasting all of this other stuff too.
My only is cars. My foster mom cannot figure it out. Hearing the sounds of a car, I want to run. She makes me sit and calms me down, but I am still shaking really bad. She is reinforcing me that it is just a sound, but right now, I am not sure of that. I have stopped trying to run away and will sit while she calms me. She tried to put me in the back of her car, um NO. I will not jump into that thing that scares me. She has been giving me treats, I will get in, and then shake. She keeps doing this and one day I will trust her to know that her car is not going to hurt me. I am learning to trust my foster Mom. She understands what I have been through.
I have lots of training to accomplish and medical needs to go through first. Once this all completed, I am going to be great companion. I am going to learn basic commands, I want to please and my foster Mom states I am a very clingy boy. Just do not leave your shoes around me. If you would like to sponsor me and help with my Vet bills, that would be awesome.
