T Bone is a super cool dog who was found as a stray in Virginia Beach. He is a very intelligent dog. While he has not had much formal education, he makes up for it in street smarts. His history, as we know it, begins in early April when he was found shopping in a local grocery store. The store was closed, but that didn't stop T Bone! He was found in the morning by some employees who were prepping to open the store. T Bone is a dog who has a ton of potential. He has had little or no training prior to his foster home. Thankfully he is house broken. Since coming to his foster home he has begun crate training and started learning leash manners. Training is absolutely necessary for T Bone. He doesn't know any basic cues, although he has started to learn his name. T Bone needs a forever home where he will get lots of exercise. He currently goes for a 30 45 minute walk/jog three times a day. If you love to exercise, you would probably be a perfect fit. T Bone can be a complete angel, but if he is not exercised sufficiently he starts to chew... on you! He is a very happy dog with lots of confidence. His foster family has not witnessed him showing fear of anything. He is definitely a people dog. He seems to be quite happy to meet new people. He has not been around children or cats, so his behavior around them is unknown. If you are interested in meeting T Bone, please talk with your case worker. VGSR can only adopt dogs out in the Virginia/Maryland/DC area, no exceptions.

Although donations of all types are needed, our primary need is foster homes for our lovely dogs while they wait for their new family to find them. Fostering is an extremely rewarding experience. Vet care is paid for by our rescue, and we can even provide you with food. All YOU need to add is love and security.

The adoption process starts with the applicant filling out the adoption application. This can happen at any time during the process, before or after having met a GSD that might be the ideal companion. (It's an advantage to have a pre-approved application on file with VGSR. It should be stressed here that being pre-approved does not mean that any potential adopter can select any available dog at will and take that dog home immediately. VGSR will exercise its best judgement as to which GSD will be the best match for that specific adopter based on a number of qualifying criteria. Many GSDs that come to us are matched up with their new people very quickly because their people have been pre-approved.) The applicant then submits the application form with a non-refundable $10.00 processing fee. VGSR reviews the application, then schedules an interview and home visit during which a number of questions are asked and the home is reviewed to be sure there is a contained/safe yard, and to meet the family involved. Once the application is approved, the applicant is asked to submit a $250.00 donation to VGSR, and the adoption is completed.
