German Shepherd Dog / Mixed : : Female (spayed) : : Adult : : Large
Introducing Princess Cookie! She is an owner surrender due to not enough time for her. Cookie was kept in a crate in the garage for the first year and a half of her life. She had never seen another dog until her arrival at the shelter. Imagine her shock upon discovering others like her! Loyal subjects for Cookie to rule! Cookie is a dominant young lady. She responds well to a calm, confident leader. However, if someone isnt in charge, then Cookie will assert her royal prerogative and take over! People and dogs alike. With confident, calm handling, Cookies true personality shines through. She is highly intelligent. She only has to see/do something once. Then shes got it. This includes her Houdini-like escapes from the royal grounds. She has been under and over a 4 foot fence at her temporary castle, so a secure 6 foot fence is a requirement for her forever home. Since Cookie had no socialization with other dogs, she is learning how to act and play with other dogs. She needs continued socialization and interaction with dogs and people. Cookie loves to play with other dogs, but doesnt understand their signals to calm down or end play. She is also learning how to initiate play, properly. Not by biting ones subject on the ear or barking in ones face! Cookie has significant prey/ball drive. She escaped the yard twice after rabbits, so a home with no small animals is a must. She also has separation anxiety. Cookies perfect home will have her humans available to her most of the day. Cookie currently sleeps in the royal bedchamber, so the rest of the castle can get some sleep! Cookie becomes very vocal, if shes kept away from the rest of the household. Cookie is crate-trained and house-trained. She knows sit, down, and stay. She takes treats appropriately and sits for her dinner. She is learning to walk on a leash. Cookie needs a home where she can be the treasured princess and not have to compete for attention, so she needs to be the only pet. Cookie would probably do well in agility, obedience or possibly even schutzhund due to her intelligence, drive and energy level. Are you looking to add a little royalty to your house? Please contact your caseworker if youd like more information about Princess Cookie. Please check out our web site at www.shepherdrescue.org for more information about our dogs, our adoption process and to download an application. You must have a fully approved application on file prior to privately meeting our dogs. We do not have a facility, all our dogs are housed in private foster homes throughout MD/DC/VA areas. More information available on our web site, so please read through our web site before emailing questions, as it might save us both some time! VGSR can only adopt dogs out in the Virginia/Maryland/DC area, no exceptions. Although donations of all types are needed, our primary need is foster homes for our lovely dogs while they wait for their new family to find them. Fostering is an extremely rewarding experience. Vet care is paid for by our rescue, and we can even provide you with food. All YOU need to add is love and security. The adoption process starts with the applicant filling out the adoption application. This can happen at any time during the process, before or after having met a GSD that might be the ideal companion. (It's an advantage to have a pre-approved application on file with VGSR. It should be stressed here that being pre-approved does not mean that any potential adopter can select any available dog at will and take that dog home immediately. VGSR will exercise its best judgement as to which GSD will be the best match for that specific adopter based on a number of qualifying criteria. Many GSDs that come to us are matched up with their new people very quickly because their people have been pre-approved.) The applicant then submits the application form with a non-refundable $10.00 processing fee. VGSR reviews the application, then schedules an interview and home visit during which a number of questions are asked and the home is reviewed to be sure there is a contained/safe yard, and to meet the family involved. Once the application is approved, the applicant is asked to submit a $250.00 donation to VGSR, and the adoption is completed. |
