If you like em BIG and Handsome, then Im your boy! I am a four-ish-year-old, 85- pound, lean and muscular kissing machine! My ears tell part of my story the tips are cosmetically challenged from an unfortunate encounter with frostbite, and one ear has a scar that looks like at one time there was a hole clear through it. It gives me the dark and dangerous look, but thats only until you are melted by my soft brown eyes. I am an indiscriminate kisser if I have known you for more than 30 seconds, you get close enough and give me just a little lovin, youll probably get a big wet one right on your kisser! I was picked up in early October as a stray, and it was clear I had been outside fending for myself for quite some time. Other than having scarred ears, however, I am in good health no worms or fleas or anything! Now that I have had some time indoors, Im beginning to like the good life, and will roll over for a belly rub. Foster Mom says I still need some house manners, and mentioned something about a bull in a china shop. I am a good running partner! Well, foster mom ran. I sort of did a slow lope. After a few minutes we got into a stride and I didnt pull or trip her, and rarely even wanted to stop to investigate smells. Also, I have learned to sit on command, and am working on my recall and down. I mostly have down the idea that inside is for eating and outside is for peeing, but occasionally (once a week or so) slip up and mark something inside. What do you expect I was just neutered a week ago, and it takes time to adapt from living outside, especially being such a masculine boy with all my natural testosterone still flowing. After a minute or two, I settle down nicely in my crate when Foster Mom and Dad go out, but I do need a BIG crate! How do I get along with other critters? Lets see I like my cats with wasabi, or maybe mayo, or pan-fried with some hollandaise, but plain is ok too. However, I get along fine with other dogs. The resident GSD is a little scared of me, I cant figure it out, but foster Mom says its because I am big and rambunctious. At Starbucks I sniffed a little daschund smaller than my head, and didnt even think about taking a small taste. I have been eagerly awaiting an opportunity to play with some of the neighborhood dogs. So far, I like all people! A little girl asked if she could give me a hug. When I sat down my head was about 4 inches taller than hers. But she just came on over and gave me a good hug and I liked it. However, adults do need to watch me closely around anything breakable china, glass, really young people, really old people because I am sooo big and more than a little klutzy, with a tail that wags so hard it threatens to whack a hole in the drywall. Foster Mom says Big Boys like me get good homes fast! If you think you might be the family for me, please put in an application to adopt me, and contact Foster Mom at kmonster@comcast.net

Although donations of all types are needed, our primary need is foster homes for our lovely dogs while they wait for their new family to find them. Fostering is an extremely rewarding experience. Vet care is paid for by our rescue, and we can even provide you with food. All YOU need to add is love and security.

The adoption process starts with the applicant filling out the adoption application. This can happen at any time during the process, before or after having met a GSD that might be the ideal companion. (It's an advantage to have a pre-approved application on file with VGSR. It should be stressed here that being pre-approved does not mean that any potential adopter can select any available dog at will and take that dog home immediately. VGSR will exercise its best judgement as to which GSD will be the best match for that specific adopter based on a number of qualifying criteria. Many GSDs that come to us are matched up with their new people very quickly because their people have been pre-approved.) The applicant then submits the application form with a non-refundable $10.00 processing fee. VGSR reviews the application, then schedules an interview and home visit during which a number of questions are asked and the home is reviewed to be sure there is a contained/safe yard, and to meet the family involved. Once the application is approved, the applicant is asked to submit a $200.00 donation to VGSR, and the adoption is completed.
