9/21/22  Toby is a 75 pound German Shepherd male. He's roughly three-and-a-half years old and neutered. He's a spunky boy with a beautiful coat, healthy white teeth, and goofy tongue. He has a great low bark and loves to chase a ball, a rope, or anything else you can throw for him. Toby spent approximately five months in a shelter before coming to VGSR. Now that he's out, he's learning to navigate open spaces with other dogs and people. His current foster family has three dogs, and Toby is getting along with all of them. They include a small chihuahua and a larger male shepherd. Toby's foster family also has an 11 year old daughter that Toby is getting along with just fine. Toby seems to like everyone except for one veterinarian who was treating Toby's ear infections--his ears were very sensitive when VGSR first took Toby in. Toby is a heavy chewer that loves all kinds of bones, raw hide, and hooves. He also likes training treats, cheese, peanut butter, and salmon skin. He works especially hard at puzzle toys that he has to manipulate to get treats. Toby is lyme positive, but isn't showing any symptoms. He also has early indications of hip dysplasia for which he takes a healthy joint supplement and a half tablet of pain medication twice daily. You wouldn't know it from his energetic walks and outside exploring. Toby is making great progress on relearning pre-shelter behaviors like walking on a leash, peeing outside (though he uses a piddle pad if he goes inside), knowing what's okay to chew and what isn't, and not using his teeth when he's playing and gets excited. Toby came to VGSR as an anxious boy suffering the effects of isolation and confinement. He loves being close to humans and other dogs, loves pets and scratches, and takes corrections even from small dogs as he relearns boundaries. He makes it obvious how grateful he is to have been saved from the shelter, and he's going to make a loving and loyal companion to someone for the rest of his life. Approved adopters may email his foster at DougBryant@protonmail.com
