5/9/21:For all you Game of Thrones fans, we bring to you our very own DROGO 3512! Drogo just arrived in his foster home and is adjusting very nicely. He is an absolutely stunning, long-haired GSD. He has a majestic and regal appearance but his personality is bubbly and goofy. He previously lived with a female GSD, several children and a cat (who he did enjoy chasing on occasion). Drogo is a complete love bug who enjoys napping next to his people. He is a ball fanatic and could fetch until he drops. He is an energetic boy but also has a turn off switch when it's time to relax. We suspect he may enjoy water since he likes dipping his toes in his water bowl. He is crate trained and house broken. Drogo has done well with all dogs he has met. He also has some ear issues that are concerning so we will be going to the vet this week for a workup and exam. Drogo is a one of a kind, special boy who deserves an awesome family to shower him with love and affection.

5/11/21: Drogo was a total champion at his vet appointment today. He allowed all the new strangers to poke and prod all over him and was a great patient the entire time. Drogo is in good shape physically. He is currently being treated for a urinary infection. He tested positive for Lyme and will start a course of doxycycline but is not symptomatic. Lastly, his ears which were the big concern were examined and he will be seeing a specialist for further evaluation on 5/24/21.

5/27/21: Drogo went to the specialist earlier this week. We got the dreaded news that his ears were as bad as we were thinking they may be. Drogo is a very happy dog but he is clearly in discomfort and pain. He spends a good amount of time scratching his ears raw, shaking his head incessantly, and whimpering. The surgeon felt his ears were too far progressed for any treatment option other than surgery. Drogo will be having a bilateral TECA (total ear canal ablation), which will ultimately cause him to be functionally deaf meaning he may be able to hear certain pitches and vibrations. The surgery will also alter his appearance a bit because his ears will likely no longer stand.  As his foster parents, we are very sad about this but we also feel the surgery will give him the pain free life that he has always deserved. Drogo has been dealing with chronic ear infections since he was a puppy in 2017. We are confident Drogo will be a much happier pup after the surgery and we can't wait to see his personality blossom even more! However, due to the changes Drogo is going to experience with his hearing loss and the change of environments when he finds his forever home our preference will be an adopter who has a fenced yard for his safety. We also will not be placing him in a home with small children that may startle him. And lastly, Drogo will not be able to hear other dog's cues such as growling so if he has a four-legged sibling it will need to be a very friendly dog!

6/25/21: Drogo's surgery went well! He is recovering nicely. Good news is that Drogo can hear partially. He isn't able to hear some things like talking lowly or if he's asleep he doesn't hear you walk around or open doors. BUT he can definitely hear loud noises and if you talk loudly. He will jump up immediately if you say the word "outside" or if you say "Drogo" loud!!!! Drogo seems to still want to scratch at his ears and has began chewing his paws and bottom so we are thinking he may have some allergies also. He is currently still wearing a cone because if given the opportunity he will scratch his ears and they are fragile right now. We are trying some allergy medications to see if that helps with his itchiness. His exercise restriction has been lifted so he has thoroughly enjoyed romping in the yard and running after his toys. Recently, we learned that Drogo would do best in a home WITHOUT cats.

Approved adopters can email his foster at gsd2020k9@gmail.com
