About Daisy (Courtesy Listing)

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Black
  • Current Size: 75
  • Current Age: 9 Years 4 Months (best estimate)

We rescued our Dutch Shepherd Daisy a year ago just as Covid hit. She was a neglect case, locked in a laundry room for 10+ hours a day. In one year she has become a strong, playful, protective girl who is super intelligent and begs to be loved. She knows all commands – sit, down, come, stay/place, heel – and we work on these every day, off leash and on. She is very reactive to other dogs from lack of socialization, but loves us and our young grandkids. The problem is not her, it’s us. I’m 73, very fit, but my husband has Alzheimer’s and Covid’s isolation has been very hard on him. A trainer helped me with Daisy’s dog issues with an e-collar and prong collar but she needs a stronger Alpha than me, especially as my husband declines. When Daisy works with experienced handlers around other dogs, she does really good. I’m not confident or strong enough to try that. I just practice dog avoidance. Daisy would thrive in a one-dog home where she won’t be alone for hours and hours, and where she can play and be challenged for the rest of her life. We will take her back if adoption doesn’t work out.
