Hi! I’m Olaf! I am a Gerberian Shepsky! That’s right. My momma was a GSD and my daddy was a Siberian Husky, or vice versa.  It’s hard to remember way back then. I do remember my old owners. When my sister and I ended up in the pokey after an adventure, they bailed her out, but left me behind. I don’t know why, but they did.  Someone mentioned that I am an escape artist. My new parent’s say I’m mostly a good boy. I did escape the crate that one time, but it was just because I missed them and I really had to poop. They got these little pieces of plastic called zip ties since that happened and well, now I’m used to my food and I know they are coming home, I don’t have to freak out when they leave. In fact, I scamper into my crate when I can tell it is time for mommy to leave for work.

One day mommy decided to let me be out with my foster brothers and sister when she left the house for an errand. I enjoyed tearing up some plastic bags I found in my dad’s office. For some reason this made them mad. I like to chew on plastic stuff.  I don't chew toys, as they are for babies, but cool stuff like plastic boxes and some of dad’s tools. I don’t make a big mess, just a small pile of shredding. I mean what is the big deal? Mommy says it is funny because I am a perfect gentleman when they are home. I just get a little anxious when I can’t be with them. I don’t mind hanging out in my crate, just not for too long.

I would like to live in a home with another dog to play with. I would a nice dog, around my size and age, not a big meany like one of my foster brothers. He’s mean, but my foster sister and I keep him in check. Mommy and dad say that we are the ones that are mean. My foster sister rules the pack. She likes me, and we play together nicely. I LOVE my other foster brother. He is an exotic blend like me, not a boring black and tan GSD like my big mean foster brother and my foster sister. They like toys. My foster mutt brother and I just like to run around in the backyard and will sometimes play inside, but not crazy like outside.

Dad says I’m a good petting dog, but kind of a pain to groom. I’m really soft, they say, but apparently my magic fibers of love are fluffier than my packmates. They compared me to a cat. I don’t know what a cat is, so I’m not sure I like being compared to one. I might not like cats.

 I love car rides, and Mommy says I am the best car dog ever! I also love going for walks, but not really long ones. Mommy says she can’t understand how a Husky/GSD mix can be as much of a couch potato as I am. I like to play, just not all the time.  She likes to rub my tummy and tell me I’m a good boy. She also forgives me easily for chewing on things that I’m not supposed to chew on. She laughed when I made the butter disappear. She said she knew it wasn’t my foster sister because she hasn’t done that in a while and when she does she leaves behind the wrapper. I guess I wasn’t supposed to eat that part. I’ll have to keep that in mind next time they leave one of those delicious yellow snack bars on the counter.

They say I’m vocal, but I just like to let everybody know I’m happy, or alert folks if there is danger. I know that I don’t have to bark every time something moves in the neighborhood (unlike my foster brother, Mr. Barky Pants). I am in touch with my Husky roots and I know how to sing. I also know about barking.  I have a great singing and speaking voice.

I love love love to chase squirrels. I walk really well on a leash until I see one. Then, well, I can’t help myself. My inner animal kicks my prey drive into high gear and well, I gotta run.  I haven’t met the kitty cat that lives in the neighborhood. It likes to run too, so I bet we could have a nice game of chase.

I can be a bit bouncy at times, so Mommy says I probably wouldn’t be great with little people. I haven’t been around any since I joined VGSR, so they don’t really know what I’m like with small humans, or small dogs either.

Well I have to go be a good doggie.  See you soon at an event!  If you are interested in me, email my foster at gsdnest@gmail.com.

========================================================

Meet Olaf, the Gerberian Shepsky!  He is sweet, cuddly, and mischievous. Today, he escaped the crate and pooped all over the living room and got into a bag of cookies. He was only left alone a couple of hours. He also snuggled with the humans and played with 2 out of 3 of his foster buddies. He is still settling in. More to follow as he shows more of his personality.
