About Nadia

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog

Klink and Nadia. Two gorgeous sable GSDs who have that European look to them. Dumped in a neighborhood, they looked for a friendly face. Klink took the lead when an animal control officer came to their rescue. Nadia was a bit more hesitant, not knowing what the future would bring. Their new beginning started at the Spotsylvania Animal Shelter and it was there that the staff found out they were heartworm positive. Their hopes of being adopted were dashed as the shelter felt they shouldnt be up for adoption to the general public. Thats when Virginia German Shepherd Rescue stepped in to save these two dogs. They're still recovering from heartworm treatment, and their foster mom is getting to know them quite well. Nadia is a love. Once she realized she had a nice human, she melted into her foster moms arms. Nadia gave her kisses throughout the grueling task of getting all the mats and dead hair off her. Then, when it was bath and condition time, she closed her eyes and let the warm water flow over her dirty coat. Again she gave kisses while her foster mom clipped curling nails and cleaned ears. Right now, she loves the attention so much; she prefers to eat out of her foster moms hands. Klink is the leader. Full of love, but yet a bit unsure of all this new attention. He was a real trooper while the mats came off, and his foster mom thinks hes actually proud of his feet now that there arent daggers hanging off. Hes all German Shepherd, though, and should go to someone with GSD experience. Right now, hes not only recovering from heartworm treatment, but his ears are severely infected. So much so, that he scratched at one until some cartilage was broken on the tip. His ear probably wont ever stand up straight again, but the vet helped him so now it doesnt hurt. Klink likes it though; he thinks it gives him personality. Through it all, Klink still weighs in at 82 pounds and will probably be a perfect weight at 90. Nadia is on the smaller side and will probably top out at 60 pounds when she gets her weight back. Klink is around two years old and Nadia isnt much older, perhaps four. These dogs are very bonded to each other, and it would be their dream come true to be adopted together. Its not an absolute, but they sure would like it that way. They should also go to a home with no cats or small dogs. I guess when you spend the first part of your life in a horrible situation; your tolerance for the little things in life gets put by the wayside. Please consider opening your heart and home to these two wonderful dogs. You wont regret it. ** Nadia is only available for adoption to residents of MD/DC/VA. Please check out our web site at www.shepherdrescue.org for more information and to download an application to adopt. Although donations of all types are needed, our primary need is foster homes for our lovely dogs while they wait for their new family to find them. Fostering is an extremely rewarding experience. Vet care is paid for by our rescue, and we can even provide you with food. All YOU need to add is love and security.

The adoption process starts with the applicant filling out the adoption application. This can happen at any time during the process, before or after having met a GSD that might be the ideal companion. (It's an advantage to have a pre-approved application on file with VGSR. It should be stressed here that being pre-approved does not mean that any potential adopter can select any available dog at will and take that dog home immediately. VGSR will exercise its best judgement as to which GSD will be the best match for that specific adopter based on a number of qualifying criteria. Many GSDs that come to us are matched up with their new people very quickly because their people have been pre-approved.) The applicant then submits the application form with a non-refundable $10.00 processing fee. VGSR reviews the application, then schedules an interview and home visit during which a number of questions are asked and the home is reviewed to be sure there is a contained/safe yard, and to meet the family involved. Once the application is approved, the applicant is asked to submit a $200.00 donation to VGSR, and the adoption is completed.
