Pawlina has been with me for a few months now, and she is just the best roommate!  I trust her completely and she has full access to my condo, even when I’m not home.  She loves her kibble and snacks and, after meals, she just likes to hang out on the futon or the carpet.  Sometimes she comes to me looking for attention, an ear scratch or a tummy rub.  She rarely barks and she never chews anything she isn’t supposed to.  She enjoys her walks around the neighborhood, 2-3 miles each day.  She is still a little bit leash-reactive to other dogs, but she can be distracted by snacks so she is getting better about that.  She lives with another foster dog and she visits her foster siblings on the weekends.

All in all, Pawlina is a wonderful dog, and she would make a great companion for some lucky family, whether they live in a condo, townhouse or single-family home.  Please contact her foster at tnhuck@yahoo.com if you have any questions about her.

10/02/23   Guess who is ready to be adopted!! Pawlina has had her three topical heartworm injections and she is doing great! Everyone at the vet's office loves her and paid extra-special attention to her when she was there for her procedures. She will need to be re-tested for microfilaria at the end of December and again next summer. 

8/8/23  Available Soon!!   My name is Pawlina and I am here to tell you that I behave like a youngster!  I was picked up as a stray and the shelter guessed my age at 10 years, but my vet in Arlington says I might be as young as 7.  Okay, I have some gray hairs on my muzzle (who doesn’t?), but my teeth are in good shape and I have a pretty good energy level – I bounce up and down on my hind legs like I’m hopping on a pogo stick whenever I see a squirrel run up a tree!

I really like it when people pay attention to me and, in return, I will protect them from anything I perceive to be a danger.  I also like to bark a lot in the car – I just think it’s a really fun thing to do.  I walk okay on a leash and I enjoy meeting new people and some of the other dogs in the neighborhood – if their owners have snacks, I will tolerate the dogs.

I am smart and eager to please.  I had some bad habits when I first came into rescue (like lunging and barking at cars) but I learned to stop doing these things after a few corrections.  I am also working on impulse control and sitting quietly while foster mom puts on my leash and opens the door for a walk.  Some other good qualities – I am protective of my home turf, I liked to be brushed and I am a good eater with no known allergies.

Unfortunately, I am heartworm positive.  I have finished my doxy pills and later in August I will have my first topical treatment.  I am asymptomatic (no coughing) and my heart and lungs look good on the X-ray, so paws crossed that I will soon have a clean bill of health!
